David & Audrey Heppe

October 11, 2025 | Cape Girardeau, MO

David and Audrey met in college in Missouri, shortly after David came to faith through a campus ministry. After marrying, they moved to Memphis, TN, where David joined that ministry staff and Audrey worked as a dietitian. Their son Martin was born in 2021. Later, they returned to Missouri, where David worked for another college ministry at their alma mater.

The Heppes planned to grow their family during this time. Yet, Audrey had three miscarriages in one year. While they were devastated, God used that sorrow to open their hearts to adoption. As they learned about the challenges children face, their desire shifted from simply expanding their family to the joy of providing a home for a child or siblings in need. The adoption process opened their eyes to how adoption reflects the love the Father has for us in Christ.

Though eager to grow their family, the Heppes learned through adoption training that the heart of adoption is not getting what they want but extending God’s mercy and love to children in need. One staggering reality they discovered is that, for every family willing to adopt internationally, as many as ten children are waiting for a home! This led them to pursue adoption from Hungary, with approval to welcome a sibling group. The Heppes have completed their home study and are now gathering the legal documents required by Hungary’s administration. Every day, they pray and work diligently toward the day they can bring their children home!

Widow | Missouri

Life seemed to be going great for Abby and her husband. He pastored their local church, they had two young children, and they were building the home where they hoped to grow old together. Yet completely without warning, her husband passed away in his sleep. On his bedside table lay notes for his sermon, “What It Means to Have Saving Faith in Jesus.” That same message was preached at his funeral.

Left with two small children and a half-finished house, Abby faced overwhelming challenges. Yet the same faith her husband preached gave her strength to persevere. She raised her children, completed much of the house herself, and even fostered at-risk infants. In time, she adopted her lovely daughter, Toni (pictured alongside her). Abby’s life is a testimony of Christ’s love, carrying his people through even the darkest valleys. What she has accomplished is remarkable, and now the Heppes look forward to blessing her and her family through their Both Hands project.
